À propos
Shadow Romances
Shadow Romances creates cinematic love stories where romance meets secrets, suspense, and unexpected twists. From passionate dramas and romantic thrillers to supernatural love stories and lighter romances, each story is built around characters, emotion, and the question of what might be hiding beneath the surface.
Conseils aux créateurs
Start with what you have, and have a lot of patience. You don’t need to know everything before you begin — I certainly didn’t. Try things, make mistakes, learn what works for you, and keep going. Technology has made storytelling accessible in ways it never was before, but the most important thing is still the idea you want to bring to life.

I’m an independent solo creator based in Budapest, Hungary, working under the name Shadow Romances. I’ve always loved storytelling, especially romance with mystery, tension, and unexpected turns. I started creating films as a way to bring the stories in my imagination to life, gradually learning every part of the process myself — from developing the story and characters to directing the visuals, editing, sound, and the final production. What began as a creative experiment quickly became something I genuinely love doing.

I was drawn to micro-dramas by the challenge of telling an emotionally complete story in a much shorter format. I usually create longer-form stories, so adapting one of my films into short episodes made me look at pacing, structure and cliffhangers in a completely different way. I loved the idea that even a very short episode can create an emotional connection, reveal something unexpected, and leave the audience wanting to know what happens next. For me, micro-drama became an opportunity to experiment with a new way of storytelling without losing the characters and emotional depth that matter most to me.

The CEO’s Contract Wife follows Melissa, who enters a contract marriage with Julian while believing that he and his family were responsible for destroying her father’s life. She expects the marriage to be nothing more than an arrangement, but as they are forced closer together, suspicion slowly gives way to trust — and eventually to feelings neither of them planned for. Their relationship is further complicated by Victoria, who is determined to keep them apart. What I enjoy most about the story is that its central conflict is built on a version of the past that Melissa believes to be true. As the story unfolds, both she and the audience begin to question that version, until the final revelations change the meaning of much of what came before. I hope viewers get caught up in the romance, but also keep wondering who they can trust and what really happened.

My process always starts with the story. I develop the initial idea into a full narrative arc, build the characters and their relationships, and then break the story down scene by scene and eventually shot by shot. From there, production becomes a combination of creative direction and experimentation. I work with different AI tools for character development, visuals, performances and individual shots, often generating and refining scenes multiple times until the emotion, continuity and pacing feel right. I then edit everything together, work on dialogue, sound, music and subtitles, and keep adjusting the film until it feels like one coherent story rather than a collection of generated scenes. It can be a surprisingly hands-on process — especially as a solo creator — but that is also what I enjoy about it. I get to take an idea all the way from a sentence in my head to a finished film.

The biggest challenge is probably the unpredictability of the technology. A workflow that works perfectly one day may behave completely differently the next, and sometimes a creative idea runs into a technical limitation that is simply outside my control. I’ve learned to stay flexible, try different approaches, and not become too attached to one particular tool or workflow. There is almost always another way to create the scene I have in mind.

For me, it comes down to two things: emotional connection and curiosity. A short episode needs to give the audience enough to care about the characters, while leaving them with a question they genuinely want answered. A cliffhanger helps, but it only works if the viewer is already emotionally invested. The goal is not simply to make people click “next” — it is to make them want to know what happens next.

One of my biggest challenges has been format. I currently have seven completed films, originally created as cinematic 16:9 stories, and I’m now exploring how to adapt them into vertical micro-drama series without losing what made the original stories work. For independent creators, distribution is incredibly important. Creating the film is only half the journey — finding the right platform and the right audience for it is the other half. That is also what makes opportunities like HeyRuby particularly interesting to me: they offer a new way to bring stories I’ve already created to audiences in a format designed for how people watch today.

I’m still at the beginning of my journey with HeyRuby, but so far the experience has been very positive. What I particularly appreciate is their supportive and open approach to independent creators. Communication has been friendly and helpful, and whenever I’ve had a question, I’ve felt comfortable reaching out. I’m excited to see where the collaboration goes from here.

I’m currently adapting one of my favorite films into a micro-drama series. It’s a story full of twists, following the relationship between an FBI agent and a mysterious man in a world where almost no one is quite who they seem. I’m especially excited to see how the story translates into shorter episodes, and I hope audiences will enjoy discovering its secrets one by one. I plan to continue creating character-driven stories that mix romance, mystery, and unexpected turns.
