Creator FAQ

Answers to the questions creators and rights holders ask us most. We add to this list as new questions come in.

I'm not in the US. Can you pay me in my country?

We want to support new talent everywhere, and both individuals and businesses can receive payments.

We can arrange payments through platforms like Stripe, Wise, PayPal, or another method agreed with you in writing, depending on your country. All payments come from our U.S. company, Real Games, Inc., and we support international creators, including those in China, Hong Kong, Brazil, Nigeria, and India, subject to applicable restrictions.

We confirm your payout method with you in writing before your show is published.

What if Stripe isn't available to me?

You can still be paid through another method. Depending on your country and eligibility, that is usually Wise or PayPal. For example, a creator in Mainland China may be eligible to receive payments through Wise or a verified PayPal account. We confirm your payout method and any verification requirements with you in writing before your show is published.

If your signed Creator Agreement names only Stripe, we will confirm any other payout method with you in writing.

What information do I need to provide?

Tell us your country through the intake form, when you join as a creator, or by email. We may also request identity verification and confirmation that the receiving account belongs to you or your company. We will provide instructions for securely submitting any sensitive documents.

Non-U.S. individuals generally provide Form W-8BEN; non-U.S. companies generally provide Form W-8BEN-E. Any applicable tax withholding will depend on your circumstances and available treaty benefits.

The minimum payout, payment schedule, currency, and fees are covered in the payouts question below.

Do you publish widescreen 16:9 shows?

No. We only publish vertical 9:16 shows, across all the devices we support.

We may add widescreen in the future, so join as a creator now and we'll let you know.

My script isn't finished yet. Can I come back later?

Yes. Join as a creator now, and submit your microdrama whenever it's ready. There is no deadline and no fee, and your Creator Dashboard will be waiting for you.

Get startedFree, takes a minute, and you can submit later.
Do I have to upload my whole series to get answers? How many episodes do you need for the first review?

No. Send us links to 3 episodes first. YouTube, TikTok, unlisted or private links are all fine, and nothing is published during review. Use the intake form on this page, or email contact@realgames.ai with the links and a short description of your show.

Once a show is approved, it needs at least 6 finished episodes before it can be published (see Submission Requirements below).

What are the minimum payout, schedule, currency, and fees?

The same terms apply to individuals and companies in every country:

  • Minimum payout: $25. Balances below the minimum roll forward and are never forfeited while your account is open.
  • Schedule: royalties are calculated monthly and become available within 30 days after the end of each calendar month. Once your balance reaches the minimum, you can withdraw it.
  • Currency: all royalties are calculated and paid in US dollars.
  • Fees: the payout processor's transfer fee is shown before you confirm each withdrawal. Nothing else is deducted.
  • Tax forms: when you set up payouts, we collect any required tax form, such as Form W-8BEN (non-U.S. individuals), Form W-8BEN-E (non-U.S. companies) or Form W-9 (U.S. creators). We issue tax documents where applicable.
Do you accept short films, pilots, or feature-length films, or only episodic series?

Yes, as long as they are vertical (9:16). Vertical microdrama series are our core format, and we are also happy to publish vertical short films, pilots, and feature films. We welcome a look at any of them before you prepare a larger package.

  • Series: publish once you have at least 6 finished episodes, then keep adding episodes while the show is in production (see the question about releasing episodes gradually).
  • Short films and pilots: send private links through the intake form or to contact@realgames.ai. A short film can be published on its own, and a pilot is a good way to test audience interest before you commit to a full season.
  • Feature films: we can publish a feature as a single title or split it into chapters so viewers can unlock it the same way they unlock episodes. Tell us which you prefer during intake.

Everything we publish must be vertical 9:16, because that is how our viewers watch. We do not publish widescreen 16:9 titles today. The same Creator Agreement, Rate Card, and free localization apply to every format.

Do you accept AI-generated or AI-assisted content?

Yes. HeyRuby welcomes traditionally produced, AI-assisted, and fully AI-generated storytelling on the same terms and the same Rate Card. We are technology-neutral: great stories win, and AI is simply another tool available to you.

What we ask of AI-made work:

  • You control all the rights needed to license it to us, including any likeness, voice, music, or source material used, and your AI tools' terms must allow commercial use of the output.
  • Disclose AI use accurately at intake (the intake form asks), so we can label the title correctly for viewers who want to know.
  • Quality and content standards are the same as for any other show: clear picture and sound, well-timed captions in the original language, and content within our TV-MA guidelines.

AI-made series are already live on HeyRuby.tv and earn royalties exactly like everything else.

Do you have content rating guidelines?

Yes. We use the same TV ratings as Netflix and Hulu: TV-G, TV-PG, TV-14 and TV-MA. Every rating is welcome, including TV-MA. Mature dramas are a big part of HeyRuby.

  • Every episode is rated automatically a few minutes after it finishes uploading. There is no form to fill in.
  • Your show's rating is the rating of its strongest episode.
  • You can see the moment that set each rating. If you want a wider audience, you can trim that moment and re-upload just that episode. You never have to.
  • Think a rating is wrong? Tap Dispute on the episode in your Creator Dashboard, and a person on our team will review it.

A short list of things is not allowed on HeyRuby, such as real sex or porn, anything sexual involving someone under 18 (including AI and animated characters who look under 18), and real footage of people being killed or badly hurt. Stories can still be about hard subjects. Our automated check never rejects anything on its own; a person always reviews it first. Posters and thumbnails must suit all ages.

The full guide, with what each rating means and the complete list, is at heyruby.tv/creator-dashboard/rating-guide

Does a series need 10 or more completed episodes before publication, or can I release episodes gradually?

There is no 10-episode rule. A series can be published once it has at least 6 finished episodes, and you can keep adding episodes while the show is still in production. When a series is released before it is complete, the current final episode ends with a "Check back soon for the next episode" card, and viewers who have started the show see new episodes as soon as they are added. We are also adding a Notify Me option so those viewers can be alerted when new episodes drop. Releasing gradually is a good way to build an audience while you finish production.

Do creators keep full ownership of their series? Is the agreement non-exclusive, and can the same content stay on Instagram or be published and licensed on other platforms?

You keep all rights to your content. HeyRuby receives a license to host, stream, subtitle, translate, and promote it; we never take ownership.

You choose the license type when you submit:

  • Non-exclusive: 70% royalty rate ($0.007 per Paid Ticket). You are free to keep the same content on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or any other platform, and to license it elsewhere.
  • Exclusive: 80% royalty rate ($0.008 per Paid Ticket), under a separate signed exclusivity deal, for creators who want HeyRuby to be the only place to watch the show.

Please note that we invest in marketing, so we post episodes and clips from your show on our social channels and in paid ads to find viewers who will love it. You are welcome to do the same.

What license does HeyRuby receive, how long does it last, and can I remove a series from the platform?

HeyRuby receives a worldwide license (non-exclusive unless you sign an exclusivity deal) to host, stream, subtitle, translate, and promote your content on HeyRuby.tv, our apps, our social channels, and our marketing.

Because viewers spend real money to unlock episodes, each series stays available on HeyRuby for a Minimum Availability Term of 48 months from the date it is first published. After that, you can request removal at any time by emailing contact@realgames.ai, and we withdraw the series from new viewers within 30 days. Viewers who already spent Tickets to unlock episodes keep access to those episodes, but no new royalties accrue from them. Earlier removal is possible by written agreement; talk to us and we will be reasonable. Royalties earned before removal are always paid.

How is the creator's 70% revenue calculated? Are payment processing fees or other deductions taken before the revenue split?

Your royalty is a fixed amount per Paid Ticket, not a percentage of our sales. Every Ticket has a face value of $0.01, and you earn:

  • Standard (non-exclusive) content: $0.007 per Paid Ticket, which is 70% of face value.
  • Exclusive content: $0.008 per Paid Ticket, which is 80% of face value.
  • Tips: $0.010 per Paid Ticket, which is 100%. We take nothing from tips.

Example: an episode costs 15 Tickets to unlock. If a viewer unlocks it with 15 Paid Tickets, you earn 15 x $0.007 = $0.105. Ten thousand paid unlocks of that episode earn $1,050.

No fees are deducted before your royalty is calculated. Card and payment processing fees, app store fees, hosting, taxes we collect, and our own costs are never taken out of your rate. It also does not matter what the viewer paid for their Tickets (a ticket pack, a subscription, a promotion, or another currency): a Paid Ticket spent on your content is always worth exactly your Rate Card rate to you. That is deliberate: your earnings are Tickets x rate, verifiable from your own dashboard, with no dependence on our company sales figures.

Things that do affect the number:

  • Only Paid Tickets earn cash. Free promotional Tickets we give viewers pay $0.00, but the same number of free Tickets is credited to your own HeyRuby account to spend on content (up to a 5,000 Ticket stash).
  • Discounts, such as a bundle to unlock the rest of a series, reduce the Tickets the viewer spends, so your royalty follows the Tickets actually spent. Your per-Ticket rate never changes.
  • Refunds, chargebacks, and fraudulent or bot traffic can be reversed, and any adjustment is shown on your statement.
  • The only fee you will ever see is the payout processor's transfer fee when you withdraw, shown before you confirm. It is a payout fee, not a deduction from your royalty.
Is there a creator dashboard where I can see views, Ticket spending, tips, and earnings?

Yes. Every approved creator gets a private Creator Dashboard showing, per series and per episode: episode starts and completions, Paid Tickets spent, tips received, free Tickets credited to you, royalties earned, and viewer geography. You also get a monthly statement, a running transaction ledger, and downloadable statements you can hand straight to your accountant. If there is information you would like added, tell us and we will pass it to our design team.

Does HeyRuby promote submitted series and help creators find an audience, or are creators expected to bring their own viewers?

Both, and the combination works best. We invest our own money in marketing: paid social ads, posting episodes and clips on our social channels, placement on the HeyRuby homepage and Discover pages, and viewer emails. Shows that perform well with viewers get more of that promotion. Creators who also share their series link with an existing audience earn faster, because every Paid Ticket those viewers spend is yours at your Rate Card rate. We work hard to help great content find its audience, but we cannot guarantee views, promotion placement, or revenue for any particular series.

Are there any fees or other costs that creators must pay to participate?

No. There are no submission, listing, hosting, streaming, subtitling, or translation fees, and no charge for the Creator Dashboard or statements. HeyRuby earns only from the portion of Ticket sales that is not paid to creators. The only cost you will ever see is the payout processor's transfer fee when you withdraw your earnings, which is displayed before you confirm.

Do you pay license fees for shows?

No. We don't pay upfront license fees. There are thousands of shows available, and no one can know in advance which ones will succeed.

Instead, we pay the highest royalty rate in the industry on every Paid Ticket viewers spend on your show, and we'll do all we can to help you find partnerships and funding for new projects.

In addition to revenue sharing, does HeyRuby offer commissioned productions, production funding, advances, or minimum guarantees for new original series?

Our standard model is revenue sharing with no advances or minimum guarantees, which is what lets us pay creators the highest fixed royalty rate in the industry. The first 100 approved creators are Founding Creators and lock in Rate Card v1 for the life of their account, including any new series they add later. For exceptional series we are open to discussing an exclusivity deal (80% rate) and dedicated marketing support. If you have a specific project in mind, tell us about it through the intake form or at contact@realgames.ai.

Can I read the complete creator agreement and monetization terms before uploading a full series?

Yes. The full HeyRuby.tv Creator Agreement, including the Rate Card and payment terms, is shown in its entirety inside the intake form on this page, before you are asked to sign anything. You can read it in full without submitting, and you can request a PDF copy by emailing contact@realgames.ai. Nothing is published until your show has been reviewed and approved.

Can the 48-month Minimum Availability Term be adjusted in a separate agreement for a non-exclusive license?

The 48-month term exists to protect viewers who spend real money to unlock a series, so it is our standard for every show, exclusive or not. It is not inflexible: the Creator Agreement already allows early removal by written agreement, and for established rights holders we can discuss a different minimum term for specific series in a separate content agreement. The one condition that never changes is that viewers who already unlocked episodes keep access to them. Raise it during intake and we will settle the terms in writing before your show is published.

Do I need to provide subtitles in other languages, or do you translate my captions?

You only supply captions in the original language of your show: one .srt (or .vtt) file per episode, plus one for the trailer. We handle the localization for you, free of charge.

Every approved show is localized into our standard set of 12 languages: Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Arabic, and Turkish. Viewers pick their language in the player, and more languages are available on request.

There is no fee for localization and nothing extra to do on your side. Delivering clean, well-timed captions in your original language is all we need; the better the source captions, the better every translation reads.

What platforms and languages do you support?

Our goal is to put your show everywhere your audience wants to watch it, in their own language.

  • Languages: HeyRuby.tv is available in 13 languages, and we translate your subtitles into 12 of them for free.
  • Available now: the web, plus our apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, all with fast, high-quality video streaming.
  • Coming soon: Android and Apple TV are in testing now.

We keep adding platforms month after month, and your show appears on each one automatically, with nothing extra to submit.

Do you have a mobile app for HeyRuby.tv?

Yes. The HeyRuby.tv app is on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, and it includes an Apple Watch app, so viewers can watch episodes on their wrist: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/heyruby-tv/id6802965746

Your series appears in the app automatically once it is published; there is nothing extra to submit. Tickets, unlocks, follows, and tips work the same in the app as on the website, and every Paid Ticket spent on your content in the app earns your Rate Card rate. Android and Apple TV apps are in testing now; until then, Android viewers watch at HeyRuby.tv in their browser.

Do you consider independently produced international vertical series?

Yes, we do. We love stories from all creators and cultures, in any language.

Do you train AI on our data?

No, we don't. We are a completely transparent platform, built by creators for creators. We will never copy or reproduce your work, nor will we train models to do that.

Because we have many thousands of episodes to review, we do use AI to watch episodes and look for violence, nudity, technical errors and similar issues. These review tools run on paid services whose terms do not allow the provider to train on your episodes.

Can I add new episodes after my show is live?

Yes. Add episodes any time from your Creator Dashboard. Open Add episodes, drop in your next episode videos (.mp4 or .mov), and add a subtitle file if you have one.

  • We prepare the video, make subtitles in every language your show has, and check the rating.
  • If the new episode has the same rating as your show or a lower one, it goes live by itself, usually within the hour.
  • If it is rated higher, our team takes a quick look first.
  • New episodes keep your show's price, and your followers get notified.

You can follow each episode's progress on the dashboard.
