Advice to creators

Start smaller than you think. Pick one idea and finish three episodes before planning thirty. Tools are cheap now, so the rare thing is finishing.
Victim of Your Love, Every creator on HeyRuby answers the same ten questions. Their answers are lessons for the next creator, too.

What would you say to people who have great story ideas but feel unable to produce them because they lack budget, equipment, connections, or experience? What advice would you give them to help take the first step?

Victim of Your Love

Ten questions, answered in their own words.

  1. 01

Please briefly introduce yourself and your creative team. Who are you, where are you based, and how did you begin your journey into filmmaking and storytelling?

We are Dima and Vera, a small independent team. When AI tools became good enough for two people to make a cinematic series without a crew, we decided to try! Victim of Your Love is our first micro-drama series.

  2. 02

What inspired you to create micro-dramas? Was there a particular moment, story, platform, or opportunity that made you think, "I want to do this"?

Vertical 60-90 second episodes match how people watch today, and the format suits a small team: one idea, one hook and one cliffhanger per episode. A late 1980s Soviet setting is hard to film without a big budget, but with AI we could create that cold, grainy world ourselves.

  3. 03

Please introduce the series you created. What is the story about? What makes it special to you, and how do you hope audiences will feel while watching it?

Victim of Your Love is a psychological thriller set in late 1980s Soviet Perestroika. Lena is 19 and starts her first year as a linguistics student, with her parents' divorce still fresh. She falls for Ivan, a charismatic loner with no past. When a student is found dead on campus, the romance turns dangerous. We want viewers to feel attraction and dread at the same time, that feeling of "don't trust him, but I can't look away."

  4. 04

What does your production process look like? Could you take us behind the scenes, from the initial concept to the finished production, and explain how you complete each step?

We start with the script and break every episode into shots. Then we generate images and video with AI tools.

  5. 05

As independent creators, what has been the most difficult part? What have you learned that could help others avoid similar challenges?

The hardest part is keeping characters and the visual style consistent across 30 episodes. The second hard part is that nobody knows your series exists, so you have to treat distribution as part of the production.

  6. 06

What makes a micro-drama successful in your view? When each episode is so short, what keeps audiences watching and makes them eager to see the next episode?

A strong first three seconds, one clear emotional beat per episode, and a cliffhanger that makes the next episode feel necessary. A consistent look and a regular release schedule matter too, because viewers learn when to come back.

  7. 07

What would you say to people who have great story ideas but feel unable to produce them because they lack budget, equipment, connections, or experience? What advice would you give them to help take the first step?

Start smaller than you think. Pick one idea and finish three episodes before planning thirty. Tools are cheap now, so the rare thing is finishing.

  8. 09

What has your experience been like working with HeyRuby? Is there anything about its approach to creators, distribution model, royalty structure, promotional methods, or platform that you have found particularly meaningful?

We are new to HeyRuby. They answered our message quickly and gave us a clear path: the series is pre-approved once there are enough episodes. We like working with a platform that speaks to independent creators directly.

  9. 10

What are your plans for the future? What are you currently working on, and what would you like to create next? Where can people follow and support your work?

First, we finish season 1 (30 episodes) and release it daily on YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram, with early episodes on Patreon and HeyRuby. We are also looking for a production, funding or distribution partner so we can grow the series while keeping its creative direction.
